¿Por qué darle el “Sí” a la fe Adventista?
Mi primer recuerdo de nociones de fe, surgió en la
etapa formativa gracias a mi madre, Adela Martínez Cruz y su imagen del Sagrado
Corazón de Jesús. Mi padre Oscar Berríos Rodríguez compartía su fe, pero ella
quien más devoción tenía al Sagrado Corazón. Siempre agradezco y siempre
agradeceré esas raíces.
En aquellos días, pensaba que solo había católicos y
protestantes. Mi madre siempre respetó mis decisiones y de mi parte, nunca
busqué imponerle ideas a mi madre. El respeto y el amor eran el factor esencial
y definitorio.
El 2001 fue un año clave en mis nuevos pasos de fe. La
ruta desde ahí hasta el 2024 es compleja y propia para un libro y/o para los
medios que el Señor disponga para poder comunicar testimonios y educar sobre la
necesaria armonía cristiana.
Fue en el 2024 que en tiempo Cuaresmal, esa ruta de 40
días me movió a reflexionar sobre lo que he vivido en 40 años. Para mí, ese
tiempo parece un soplo.
Antes de esos días que me movieron a hacia las
preguntas más fundamentales para el alma y la existencia, ya había transcurrido
unas jornadas que incluyeron:

La
primera vez que visité la Iglesia Adventista Ponce V. No retomé ese tema.
·
El milagro
de sanación en mi madre en el 2012 y su muerte en el 2016; así como el fallecimiento
de mi hermano en el 2022.
·
La
visita de la Obra Misionera Adventista a mi casa en una etapa de soledad. En
esa visita, recibí la revista La fe de Jesús, con información y
preguntas para contestar. Contestarlo fue todo un proceso de luchas internas y
de clarificación por la Palabra.
·
Ver
servicios de la Iglesia Adventista Ponce V en YouTube. La participación en Grupos de Oración vía Zoom fue especial y es significativa.
·
La
búsqueda de información en diversas fuentes, 3ABN Latino y YouTube sobre el movimiento
Adventista.
·
Recibí
el obsequio del libro El Conflicto de los siglos.
·
La
forma en que el señor Víctor Otaño atendía en el trabajo en donde laboraba
(como Director Ejecutivo de la Fundación Rafael Hernández Colón) a los hermanos
de su fe y a los demás. Trataba de ayudar en una forma admirable y para mí, eso
hablaba del estilo Adventista.
Para comprender mejor mi situación: Durante una ruta
de 40 años, tenía unas bases religiosas y al mismo tiempo, había preguntas.
Ante esas interrogantes, el asistir a eventos Adventistas como la campaña
dirigida por el pastor David Finol y la organización Misión Caleb, así como la
información del Club de Aventureros para niños, me iba dando respuestas a
preguntas de casi toda una vida.
En ese contexto, la campaña evangelística “Nuevo
Comienzo” en la Iglesia Adventista Ponce V representó para mí una vivencia que
nunca imaginé viviría. En la forma más inesperada y natural dejó de ser una
campaña y fue el mayor retiro espiritual para todo mi ser.
La vivencia
en la Iglesia Adventista Ponce V fue una nueva dimensión dentro de la serie
"Nuevo Comienzo" del 9 al 16 de marzo de 2024. Los cánticos, la
armonía en la fe, y la prédica por la joven sabia, líder consagrada y
entusiasta Katarina Lockwood, estudiante en Southern Adventist University,
crearon una obra maestra hecha por el Supremo Artífice.
Para
visualizar mejor mi situación: Estaba como una persona cubierta por rocas. Las
predicaciones y las informaciones y la revelación sobre el sábado como el Santo
Día de Reposo (la revolucionaria naturaleza del sábado como el más activo y potenciador día en el Señor), fueron rompiendo esas piedras. Katarina con el martillo certero
o el cincel de la más ungida artista, supo dar los golpes que acabaron de
eliminar esas rocas y libertar con la guía de Jesús.
Katarina le dio sentido real y poderoso a la expresión
de "nuevo comienzo", con la base en decidir seguir a Jesús y los
Mandamientos, y creer.
El momento crucial fue al final del servicio del 9 de
marzo en que caí de rodillas ante el altar. De ahí en adelante, era imposible
perderme la serie de predicaciones y di unos pasos necesarios para encaminarme
hacia el bautismo.
Fue un
proceso de transición en que tuve que acelerar lo inevitable. No me veo
cambiando de fe, sino creciendo en la fe. ¿Por qué darle el “Sí” a la fe Adventista? Porque es la respuesta a mis mayores preguntas de
existencia y de trascendencia, por cómo enfocan la salud integral y la visión
en el contenido bíblico como guía de vida, y en cómo buscar evolucionar en cada
aspecto que mejor define a uno.
Con toda sinceridad: El hecho de que una persona no se
congregue (ruta que viví en un momento dado) no significa que esté apartada del
Eterno. El hecho de que una persona ocupe un lugar en un templo no significa
que esté bien todo en su vida. En el catolicismo y fuera del catolicismo he
conocido a buenas personas y encontrado respetables principios cristianos. Sin
embargo, en la fe cristiana desde lo Adventista, encontré unas respuestas y
unos estilos que merecen que opte libremente por perseverar ahí.
Una de las más maravillosas revelaciones es que la
Iglesia Adventista cree en milagros porque su propia existencia es un milagro
de Dios. No pretendo fomentar contiendas o fomentar la dinámica de que unos
están bien y otros están mal; ya que Dios se hace presente en donde en verdad se
unen por Él. Lo cuestionable no está en las personas bien intencionadas que con
humildad buscan servir al Altísimo. Lo cuestionable está en todo concepto
institucional que se haya apartado de la Biblia. La Iglesia Adventista cree en
milagros y fomenta esa conciencia; por ejemplo:
·
La Iglesia Adventista cree en milagros de sanidad.
·
La Iglesia Adventista cree en la promesa de abundancia
firmada por Dios para los diezmos; y que con el 90 % santificado y sabiamente
administrado puedes más.
·
La Iglesia Adventista no cree en el culto al
sufrimiento y la pobreza; fomenta la superación, la sana alimentación y la
plenitud de vida enfocada en Jesús.
·
La Iglesia Adventista no cree en el conformismo y el
estancamiento; la existencia de templos, instituciones educativas y esfuerzos de
evangelización así lo confirma. La pregunta en el relato bíblico de “¿Acaso
puede salir algo bueno de Nazaret?”, confirma que la superación enfocada en el
Eterno y la gesta fundadora desde el cambio revolucionario en las aguas
bautismales, es poder de inspiración constructiva.
·
La Iglesia Adventista cree en milagros con el poder el
amor que superan distancias y crean nuevos y mejores paradigmas; héroes como
Caleb y Job, confirman que los creyentes perseverantes en la naturaleza humana
rompen moldes de edad y de todo tipo: No eres demasiado joven para revelaciones
transformadoras y no eres demasiado viejo para testimonios renovadores. La
comisión en la Biblia de “Por tanto, id, y haced discípulos a todas las
naciones”, confirma que los testimonios apoyados por Dios, rompen fronteras
geográficas y unen en la cultura que ama, cree y fundamenta en Jesús, la
armonía y nuevas realizaciones.
Así, creer
en milagros y buscar vivirlos para dar testimonios, es la mejor opción. En la
Biblia que empleo, una copia de una foto en que aparezco con tres años junto a
mi madre, me recuerda las bases de fe que siempre agradezco con sumo amor, y
que las preguntas de niño eran más que razonables. En mi conciencia y corazón,
cada vez que visito los recuerdos y vivencias del retiro “Nuevo Comienzo”,
atesoro el regalo de Dios, me siento que estoy ante lo desconocido, y agradezco
la oportunidad de un giro de 180%, un rumbo de nueva vida. En ese contexto, el
respeto de mi hermana a mi decisión, es luz. Que el Señor presida para
consagrar la realización de sueños y cada nuevo testimonio.
La
oportunidad de renacer en las aguas bautismales y de comenzar de nuevo desde
cada luminosa decisión, tiene la esencia de un nuevo Génesis. Al ver que lo que
nunca se ha logrado requiere hacer lo que nunca se ha realizado, que cada nuevo
testimonio glorifique al Creador y dé luz al mundo que necesita volver a creer.

Why
say “Yes” to the Adventist faith?
My
first memory of notions of faith arose during my formative years thanks to my
mother, Adela Martínez Cruz, and her image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. My
father Oscar Berríos Rodríguez shared her faith, but she had the most devotion
to the Sacred Heart. I am always grateful and will always be grateful for those
roots.
In
those days, I thought there were only Catholics and Protestants. My mother
always respected my decisions and on my part, I never sought to impose ideas on
my mother. Respect and love were the essential and defining factor.
2001
was a key year in my new steps of faith. The route from there until 2024 is
complex and appropriate for a book and/or for the means that the Lord provides
to be able to communicate testimonies and educate about the necessary Christian
harmony.
It was
in 2024 that during Lent time, that 40-day route moved me to reflect on what I
have experienced in 40 years. To me, that time seems like a breeze.
Before
those days that moved me towards the most fundamental questions for the soul
and existence, a few days had already passed that included:
·
The first time I visited the Ponce V Adventist
Church. I did not return to that topic.
·
The miracle of healing in my mother in 2012 and
her death in 2016; as well as the death of my brother in 2022.
·
The visit of the Adventist Missionary Work to
my house in a time of loneliness. On that visit, I received the magazine The
Faith of Jesus, with information and questions to answer. Answering it was a
whole process of internal struggles and clarification through the Word.
· Watch Ponce V Adventist Church services on YouTube. Participation in Prayer Groups via Zoom was special and is significant.
·
Searching for information in various sources, 3ABN Latino and YouTube about the Adventist movement.
·
I received the gift of the book The Great
Controversy.
·
The way in which Mr. Víctor Otaño attended to
the brothers of his faith and to others in the work where he worked (as
Executive Director of the Rafael Hernández Colón Foundation). He was trying to
help in an admirable way and to me, that spoke of the Adventist way.
To
better understand my situation: During a 40-year journey, I had religious
foundations and at the same time, there were questions. Faced with these
questions, attending Adventist events such as the campaign led by Pastor David
Finol and the Caleb Mission organization, as well as the information from the
Adventurers Club for children, was giving me answers to almost a lifetime's
worth of questions.
In
that context, the evangelistic campaign “New Beginning” in the Ponce V
Adventist Church represented for me an experience that I never imagined I would
experience. In the most unexpected and natural way it stopped being a campaign
and was the greatest spiritual retreat for my entire being.
The
experience in the Ponce V Adventist Church was a new dimension within the
"New Beginning" series from March 9 to 16, 2024. The songs, the
harmony in faith, and the preaching by the wise young woman, consecrated and
enthusiastic leader Katarina Lockwood, a student at Southern Adventist
University, created a masterpiece made by the Supreme Artificer.
To better visualize my situation: I was like a person covered by rocks. The preachings and the information and the revelation about Saturday as the Holy Day of Rest (the revolutionary nature of Saturday as the most active and empowering day in The Lord), were breaking those stones. Katarina, with the accurate hammer or chisel of the most anointed artist, knew how to strike the blows that ended up eliminating those rocks and setting them free with the guidance of Jesus.
Katarina
gave real and powerful meaning to the expression "new beginning",
based on deciding to follow Jesus and the Commandments, and believe.
The
turning point was at the end of the service on March 9 when I fell to my knees
before the altar. From then on, it was impossible to miss the series of sermons
and I took the necessary steps to move towards baptism.
It was
a transition process in which I had to accelerate the inevitable. I don't see
myself changing faith, but rather growing in faith. Why say “Yes” to the
Adventist faith? Because it is the answer to my biggest questions of existence
and transcendence, because of how they focus on comprehensive health and vision
in the biblical content as a guide to life, and in how to seek to evolve in
each aspect that best defines one.
In all
sincerity: The fact that a person does not congregate (a route that I lived at
one time) does not mean that they are separated from the Eternal. Just because
a person occupies a place in a temple does not mean that everything in his or
her life is fine. In Catholicism and outside of Catholicism I have met good
people and found respectable Christian principles. However, in the Christian
faith since Adventism, I found some answers and styles that deserve me to
freely choose to persevere there.
One of
the most wonderful revelations is that the Adventist Church believes in
miracles because its very existence is a miracle from God. I do not intend to
foment strife or encourage the dynamic that some are right and others are
wrong; since God is present where they are truly united by Him. What is
questionable is not in the well-intentioned people who humbly seek to serve the
Almighty. What is questionable is every institutional concept that has departed
from the Bible. The Adventist Church believes in miracles and encourages that
awareness; For example:
·
The Adventist Church believes in healing
miracles.
·
The Adventist Church believes in the promise of
abundance signed by God for tithes; and that with the 90% sanctified and wisely
managed you can do more.
·
The Adventist Church does not believe in the
cult of suffering and poverty; It encourages self-improvement, healthy eating
and a fullness of life focused on Jesus.
·
The Adventist Church does not believe in
conformism and stagnation; The existence of temples, educational institutions
and evangelization efforts confirms this. The question in the biblical story of
“Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” confirms that the improvement focused
on the Eternal and the founding feat from the revolutionary change in the
baptismal waters is the power of constructive inspiration.

The Adventist Church believes in miracles with
the power of love that overcome distances and create new and better paradigms;
Heroes like Caleb and Job confirm that persevering believers in human nature
break molds of age and all kinds: You are not too young for transformative
revelations and you are not too old for renewing testimonies. The commission in
the Bible to “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations”, confirms that
the testimonies supported by God, break geographical borders and unite in the
culture that loves, believes and bases in Jesus, harmony and new realizations.
Thus,
believing in miracles and seeking to live them to give testimonies is the best
option. In the Bible that I use, a copy of a photo in which I appear at three
years old with my mother, reminds me of the foundations of faith that I always
appreciate with great love, and that the questions as a child were more than
reasonable. In my conscience and heart, every time I visit the memories and
experiences of the “New Beginning” retreat, I treasure God's gift, I feel that
I am facing the unknown, and I am grateful for the opportunity of a 180% turn,
a new direction. life. In that context, my sister's respect for my decision is
light. May the Lord preside to consecrate the realization of dreams and each
new testimony.
The
opportunity to be reborn in the baptismal waters and to start anew from each
luminous decision has the essence of a new Genesis. Seeing that what has never
been achieved requires doing what has never been done, may each new testimony
glorify the Creator and give light to the world that needs to believe again.
