El 8 de septiembre de 2026 se celebra el 60 Aniversario de Star Trek. Tuve la oportunidad de ver el modelo de la USS Enterprise empleado para serie en el National Air and Space Museum, Smithsonian Institution; gracias a mi hermana por su presencia y apoyo en esa jornada histórica.
Recuerdo que siendo estudiante en Ponce High, captó mi atención la serie clásica de Star Trek transmitida en la televisión local, y rápido me gustó al ver que tenía contenido y trascendía patrones tradicionales. Fue mi graduación de Ponce High en 1985 y paralelamente a mis estudios universitarios, las películas de Star Trek y la llegada de la serie con una nueva generación, iba confirmando que era mucho más que entretenimiento, era una creación que superaba fronteras y unía generaciones.
Star Trek es creación de Gene Roddenberry y presenta una visión optimista del futuro. Fomenta el respeto a la diversidad y el poder de la fe.
Se puede reconocer al profesional de la salud inspirado en el doctor McCoy, al ingeniero inspirado en Scotty, al líder y al empresario emprendedor inspirado en el capitán Kirk, al intelectual inspirado en Spock. Hay muchos más ejemplos en todas las áreas, y están también los coleccionistas que activan dones en esa dinámica, las familias que encuentran ahí un sano y edificante motivo para unirse y compartir, y todos los fans que exploran nuevas posibilidades casi infinitas como las estrellas.
Star Trek nos presenta un mundo en que se terminan las guerras y los conflictos raciales, teniendo a la bella afro-americana Uhura, al ruso Chekov y al asiático Sulu.
Mediante la nueva tecnología vista en Star Trek (fruto de la sabia preparación para excelentes historias), que ya ha dado el salto de la ciencia ficción a la ciencia real, se confirma la visión positiva al destacar la capacidad constructiva del ser humano.
En septiembre de 2026, coincide el 60 Aniversario de Star Trek con la campaña Adventista"One Voice 27" que se extiende hasta septiembre del 2027 para canalizar todos los esfuerzos de evangelización y bautismos para celebrar los 2000 años del bautismo de Jesús.
Jesús es el Señor de la Historia. Star Trek nos recuerda que como seres humanos, podemos forjar una nueva realidad, una nueva historia.
En la medida que cada cual crezca en esa nueva conciencia, la nueva aventura humana, con fe, visión, amor y acción, comienza. Cada persona tendrá su propia definición de Star Trek (serie que estrenó en 1966, año en que nací; no es casualidad que me identifique con algo tan especial), pero ciertamente la escena del “trekkie” que contempla a un niño redescubrir Star Trek, dice más que mil palabras. Eso es Star Trek para mí. Dios ilumine a todos en la vida como heroica y victoriosa causa de amor.

September 8, 2026, marks the 60th anniversary of Star Trek. I had the opportunity to see the USS Enterprise model used for the series at the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum; thanks to my sister for her presence and support on that historic journey.
I remember that while I was a student at Ponce High, the classic Star Trek series—broadcast on local television—caught my attention; I quickly grew fond of it upon seeing that it had substance and transcended traditional conventions. Around the time of my graduation from Ponce High in 1985 and throughout my university studies, the Star Trek films and the arrival of the "Next Generation" series confirmed to me that the franchise was far more than mere entertainment; it was a creation that crossed borders and united generations.
Star Trek is the creation of Gene Roddenberry and presents an optimistic vision of the future. It fosters respect for diversity and the power of faith.
You can recognize the healthcare professional inspired by Dr. McCoy, the engineer inspired by Scotty, the leader and entrepreneurial businessman inspired by Captain Kirk, and the intellectual inspired by Spock. There are many more examples in all areas, and there are also the collectors who activate gifts in this dynamic, the families who find a healthy and uplifting reason to unite and share, and all the fans who explore new possibilities as almost infinite as the stars.
Star Trek presents a world where wars and racial conflicts have ended, featuring the beautiful African American Uhura, the Russian Chekov, and the Asian Sulu.
The positive vision is confirmed through the new technology seen in Star Trek—the result of astute preparation for excellent stories—which has already made the leap from science fiction to real science, highlighting the constructive capacity of human beings.
In September 2026, the 60th anniversary of Star Trek coincides with the Adventist "One Voice 27" campaign, which runs until September 2027, aiming to channel all evangelism and baptism efforts toward celebrating the 2,000th anniversary of Jesus' baptism.
Jesus is the Lord of history. Star Trek reminds us that, as human beings, we can forge a new reality, a new history.
As each person grows in that new consciousness, the new human adventure—fueled by faith, vision, love, and action—begins. Everyone will have their own definition of Star Trek (a series that premiered in 1966, the year I was born; it is no coincidence that I identify with something so special), but the scene of a "Trekkie" watching a child rediscover Star Trek certainly speaks volumes. That is what Star Trek means to me. May God enlighten everyone’s life as a heroic and victorious cause of love.
