El Aniversario de Star Trek desde la diversidad de contextos...
Una memorable introducción dice: “Space... the Final Frontier. These are the continuing voyages of the starship Enterprise. Her ongoing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life forms and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before”.
El 8 de septiembre se celebra el Aniversario de la Leyenda Viviente llamada Star Trek, que debutó en 1966. Es una ruta forjando generaciones que trascienden la frontera final; y me inspira mucho:
Recuerdo que siendo estudiante en Ponce High, captó mi atención la serie clásica de Star Trek transmitida en la televisión local, y rápido me gustó al ver que tenía contenido y trascendía patrones tradicionales. Fue mi graduación de Ponce High en 1985 y paralelamente a mis estudios universitarios, las películas de Star Trek y la llegada de la serie con una nueva generación, iba confirmando que era mucho más que entretenimiento, era una creación que superaba fronteras y unía generaciones.
En 1991, al morir el creador de Star Trek, Gene Roddenberry, se confirmó la afirmación de una institución que superó al nombre de su creador. Al celebrarse en 1991 los 25 años de Star Trek, el video conmemorativo abonó a la realidad de que es mucho más que entretenimiento, por el gran número de profesionales y seres humanos de bien que realizaron ejemplares metas inspirados por los héroes de Star Trek. Es cuestión de activar al héroe que se tiene dentro y Star Trek motiva eso.
Se puede reconocer al profesional de la salud inspirado en el doctor McCoy, al ingeniero inspirado en Scotty, al líder y al empresario emprendedor inspirado en el capitán Kirk, al intelectual inspirado en Spock. Hay muchos más ejemplos en todas las áreas, y están también los coleccionistas que activan dones en esa dinámica, las familias que encuentran ahí un sano y edificante motivo para unirse y compartir, y todos los fans que exploran nuevas posibilidades casi infinitas como las estrellas.
Star Trek nos presenta un mundo en que se terminan las guerras y los conflictos raciales, teniendo a la bella afro-americana Uhura, al ruso Chekov y al asiático Sulu. Mediante la nueva tecnología vista en Star Trek (fruto de la sabia preparación para excelentes historias), que ya ha dado el salto de la ciencia ficción a la ciencia real, se confirma la visión positiva al destacar la capacidad constructiva del ser humano.
De las series que han seguido después de la serie clásica –ST The Next Generation, ST Deep Space 9, ST Voyager, ST Enterprise, ST Discovery y ST Strange New Worlds- tenemos la gran lección de que los relevos generacionales son parte de la vida y deben ser inherentes a un proceso de desarrollo integral, viajando constantemente a donde no se ha llegado. Además, a partir del 2009, J.J. Abrams comenzó en el cine otra línea de tiempo de Star Trek.
Entonces, ¿qué es Star Trek para mí? Es mucho más que entretenimiento. No es sólo la presentación de mucha calidad en historias, recursos, detalles y actuación. No es estar perdidos en el espacio a alejados de la realidad. Es precisamente insertarnos en la existencia con una más amplia perspectiva y un aliento que vivifica un gran pensamiento: “nadie sabe todo lo que puede hacer hasta que decide hacerlo”.
Con esa conciencia, veo que el Aniversario de Star Trek vive desde la diversidad de contextos por tocar a múltiples formaciones y culturas. En mi caso, tengo medida de agradecimiento porque gracias a buenas amistades pude participar en una presentación de la organización Starfleet Puerto Rico en el Centro de Convenciones de Puerto Rico del 31 de agosto al 1 de septiembre de 2019; y gracias a mi hermana pude ver el modelo original de la USS Enterprise en el National Air and Space Museum en julio del 2024.

En la vida coinciden rutas y tiempos, bendiciones, propósitos, retos y causas. Ante todo y ante todos: No teman. No se derroten ante las adversidades. Propónganse hacer de la vida una experiencia interesante, y de su historia un testimonio luminoso que merezca ser recordado. Sean el cambio hacía una nueva y el milagro que el mundo necesita.
Hacemos historia con el recuerdo de quienes han partido a la eternidad, atesorando a quienes siguen con nosotros y armonizando las rutas generacionales. Star Trek nos recuerda que como seres humanos, podemos forjar una nueva realidad.
En la medida que cada cual crezca en esa nueva conciencia, la nueva aventura humana, con fe, visión, amor y acción, comienza. Cada persona tendrá su propia definición de Star Trek (serie que estrenó en 1966, año en que nací; no es casualidad que me identifique con algo tan especial), pero ciertamente la escena del “trekkie” que contempla a un niño redescubrir Star Trek, dice más que mil palabras. Eso es Star Trek para mí. Dios ilumine a todos en la vida como heroica y victoriosa causa de amor.

Star Trek's Anniversary from a diversity of contexts...
September 8th: Star Trek Day!
A memorable introduction reads: “Space... the Final Frontier. These are the continuing voyages of the starship Enterprise. Her ongoing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life forms and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.”
September 8th marks the anniversary of the Living Legend called Star Trek, which debuted in 1966. It's a path forging generations that transcend the final frontier; and it inspires me greatly:
I remember that as a student at Ponce High, the classic Star Trek series broadcast on local television caught my attention, and I quickly grew to love it because it had substance and transcended traditional patterns. Upon my graduation from Ponce High in 1985, and alongside my university studies, the Star Trek films and the arrival of the series with a new generation were confirming that it was much more than entertainment; it was a creation that transcended borders and united generations.
In 1991, upon the death of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, the claim of an institution that surpassed its creator's name was confirmed. In 1991, when Star Trek celebrated its 25th anniversary, the commemorative video reinforced the reality that it is much more than entertainment, thanks to the large number of professionals and good human beings who achieved exemplary goals inspired by the heroes of Star Trek. It's a matter of activating the hero within, and Star Trek motivates that.
You can recognize the healthcare professional inspired by Dr. McCoy, the engineer inspired by Scotty, the leader and entrepreneurial businessman inspired by Captain Kirk, and the intellectual inspired by Spock. There are many more examples in all areas, and there are also the collectors who activate gifts in this dynamic, the families who find a healthy and uplifting reason to unite and share, and all the fans who explore new possibilities as almost infinite as the stars.
Star Trek presents us with a world where wars and racial conflicts end, featuring the beautiful African-American Uhura, the Russian Chekov, and the Asian Sulu. Through the new technology seen in Star Trek (the fruit of wise preparation for excellent stories), which has already made the leap from science fiction to science fiction, the positive vision is confirmed by highlighting the constructive capacity of human beings.
From the series that have followed the classic series—ST The Next Generation, ST Deep Space 9, ST Voyager, ST Enterprise, ST Discovery, and ST Strange New Worlds—we learn the great lesson that generational changes are part of life and must be inherent to a process of integral development, constantly traveling to places we have never reached. Furthermore, starting in 2009, J.J. Abrams began another Star Trek timeline on film.
So, what is Star Trek to me? It's much more than entertainment. It's not just the presentation of high-quality stories, resources, details, and acting. It's not about being lost in space, far removed from reality. It's precisely about inserting ourselves into existence with a broader perspective and a breath of fresh air that vivifies a profound thought: "No one knows everything they can do until they decide to do it."
With that awareness, I see that the Star Trek Anniversary lives on in the diversity of contexts, touching multiple backgrounds and cultures. In my case, I have a measure of gratitude because, thanks to good friends, I was able to participate in a presentation by the Starfleet Puerto Rico organization at the Puerto Rico Convention Center from August 31 to September 1, 2019; and thanks to my sister, I was able to see the original model of the USS Enterprise at the National Air and Space Museum in July 2024.

In life, paths and times, blessings, purposes, challenges, and causes coincide. Above all and before everyone: Do not fear. Do not be defeated by adversity. Resolve to make life an interesting experience, and your story a shining testimony worth remembering. Be the change toward a new one and the miracle the world needs.
We make history by remembering those who have departed for eternity, treasuring those who remain with us, and harmonizing generational paths. Star Trek reminds us that as human beings, we can forge a new reality.
As each of us grows in this new awareness, the new human adventure, with faith, vision, love, and action, begins. Each person will have their own definition of Star Trek (a series that premiered in 1966, the year I was born; it is no coincidence that I identify with something so special), but certainly the scene of the "Trekkie" watching a child rediscover Star Trek speaks volumes. That is Star Trek for me. May God enlighten everyone in life as a heroic and victorious cause of love.
